Paint what you Love
Growing up in a small Yorkshire mining village after being born in Wakefield west Yorkshire, my life was rooted in the realities of a large family with limited resources, my father a miner through and through. Yet, amidst this backdrop, my art lessons shone brightly, sparking a lasting passion for exploring diverse mediums. My early years were filled with constant sketching and doodling, a self-taught journey fueled by necessity, as art college was not an option. Though my school lacked paint, offering only pencils and charcoal, my enthusiasm led me to pore over library books on watercolour techniques after graduation. Watercolours and acrylics became my initial companions, dominating my artistic expression for years. More recently, I've discovered the allure of oils. Despite my initial reservations about their drying time, I'm now captivated by their vibrant colours and the freedom they provide for continuous refinement. Painting is a daily devotion, a constant process of learning and a welcome challenge. I strive to infuse my "happy paintings" – be they street scenes, cozy homes, coastal vistas, or intimate interiors – with bright colours, energy, and a keen sense of light and shadow. Anything that catches my eye and promises to burst forth in vibrant hues becomes my next subject.
